Dyfi Biosphere Inaugural Meeting

2 Nov 2009

Wednesday, November 25, 6.30pm

Y Plas, Machynlleth

Come and help plan the future of the Biosffer Dyfi Biosphere. That’s the invitation being extended to the people of the Dyfi valley in the run up to the Biosphere’s Inaugural Meeting.

People representing local communities, local businesses and voluntary organisations are being encouraged to throw their weight behind the project, and make it a success.

The Dyfi valley has a unique status in Wales as a UNESCO ‘Biosphere Reserve’. It stands alongside 552 other sites world-wide, all designated to work towards balancing people’s needs with that of nature, and finding sustainable solutions to our way of life.

Allan Wynne Jones, one of the Dyfi Biosphere Partnership Members said: “We need new representatives to join the Dyfi Biosphere Partnership so that it truly reflects all aspects of life in the area. There are exciting opportunities ahead for the environment, local culture and the economy. But the Partnership will only succeed if it reflects all aspects of life in the valley so that activities reach out and involve everyone.”

Pete Frost, Wales' representative on the UNESCO UK Man and Biosphere Committee said: “Dyfi valley’s elite status offers a golden opportunity to build a vibrant economy based on the area’s fantastic natural assets, while also safeguarding local culture. It’s a great initiative to be part of – and I encourage people to put their names forward to be elected onto the steering Partnership.

“The overall aim is for the Dyfi Valley to be recognised and respected internationally and locally, not only for its natural beauty, heritage and wildlife, but also for its people’s efforts to make a positive contribution to a more sustainable world.”

Refreshments will be available at 5.30pm in the New Events Centre, Machynlleth ( Y Plas)  for all attending the meeting. The meeting will start at 6.30 p.m.

The organisers would appreciate it if those wishing to attend would let them know by November 20th, indicating whether they will come for the buffet as well.
